Wire-strung harp music
Marsharp Music has several books of interest to wire-harpers. First Steps, is an introduction to playing wire and both a good first tutor and a useful adjunct to other tutor books or lessons. Key Techniques is an ideal follow on from First Steps, as it uses exercises and tunes to explore the techniques used in playing wire and bray. Early Scottish Airs is a collection of arrangements for small wire-harp by Bill Taylor. Guid Scots Sangs is a collection of twelve Scots songs arranged as instrumental airs for small wire-harp with the words given alongside. Books are available to buy here and mp3 recordings, for learning purposes, are available here.
We also sell individual scores, sent as pdfs, along with mp3 recordings to help the learning process, of various arrangements and compositions for wire-strung harp by Karen Marshalsay. Her latest piece Postcard to Kenroku-en for large, four-octave harp is now available.
These scores are often arranged for varying levels of ability, so the same tune may be arranged several different ways to suit both a player's ability and harp size. Levels, range and tuning required are all specified in each individual description in the shop. The following pieces have all been taught at the workshops of the Wire Branch of the Clarsach Society in Edinburgh - so they've all been road-tested! Available to buy online here.
